On 26 November, the Functional Print Cluster, the 3NEO Technology Platform, and its Governing Council (AIMPLAS, ITENE, NAITEC, EURECAT and TECNALIA) hosted the Immersion Day on Functional Printing: Redefining Industries in Madrid. The event brought together more than one hundred professionals from the industrial and technological ecosystem — a clear sign of how rapidly functional printing and hybrid electronics are gaining strategic importance.
This high-impact meeting aimed to boost knowledge transfer, spark new projects with real industrial impact, and strengthen collaboration among innovation leaders to generate long-term value.
The opening remarks were delivered by Susana Barasoain (3NEO Platform) and Mª Ángeles Ferre (Spanish State Research Agency), who highlighted the strategic importance of advanced enabling technologies for Spain’s industrial competitiveness. The strategic keynote by Senentxu Lanceros (BC Materials) underscored functional printing as a transformative, cross-cutting technology driving the development of new materials, hybrid electronics, emerging value chains, and more sustainable industrial processes.
The program featured four thematic panels: conventional and printed microelectronics, packaging and logistics, mobility, and health; moderated by leaders of the cluster’s working groups, offering insights into the latest trends and opportunities across these sectors.
After the sector-focused sessions, CDTI, represented by Luis Maeso, unveiled new funding opportunities from the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities for advanced technologies and new materials. The event closed with Ibai Santamaría (TECNALIA) and his forward-looking presentation, “Micro-Mega-Cosmos,” which explored emerging markets, next-generation materials, distributed sensors, and advanced electronic integration.
The day concluded with a vibrant networking and demonstrator showroom, where companies and technology centers connected to explore real synergies, showcase innovations, and spark future collaborations.
Within this space, both the Functional Print Cluster and Salesianos Pamplona presented the INFINITE project, sharing its latest results and inviting attendees to contribute valuable feedback to the curriculum currently being developed within the project framework.
